Arctic as a platform utilizes a number of
wireless (GPRS,EDGE, 3G, GSM, WLAN, Bluetooth) or fixed line (IP-to-serial,
Ethernet, TCP/IP, MODBUS, IEC101/104) interfaces depending on your
specific requirements. The Arctic is a customizable technology allowing
you to develop software for your own applications. The Arctic is
also of industrial-strength, i.e. designed to be used in extreme
environments.
A device in the field - a windmill, for example
- might have an Arctic measuring data such as temperature, humidity,
oil consumption, vibration etc. The Arctic then utilises whatever
software is pre-installed for your specific purpose, such as data
conversion, storage, or processing. Finally the Arctic delivers
this information through its wireless or wired interface to your
backend information system such as SCADA.
Doing things remotely cuts down your costs as
you eliminate the need to send a maintenance engineer to do the
routine maintenance checks.
The Arctic uses a state of the art Motorola Coldfire
MCF5272 CPU processor module, 1 ethernet, 2 serial ports as well
as the flexible uClinux embedded operating system.
